Meet Dr. Bossert

Ronald P. Bossert, MD

Ronald P Bossert, MD is a board-certified plastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic plastic surgery of the body and face, with particular expertise in plastic surgery following weight loss.

Originally from Pennsylvania, Dr. Bossert graduated cum laude from Haverford College with a BA in Biology. He received his medical training at the University of Rochester, where he was awarded the prestigious OME grant for basic science research. Upon graduation, he was selected as one of less than 100 national graduates to pursue dedicated plastic surgery training at the University of Rochester’s integrated plastic surgery residency program.

Following this 5-year training program, he was chosen to serve as a fellow in body contouring surgery after weight loss at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. This prestigious year-long fellowship selects one graduate nationally annually to serve under the guidance of world-renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Peter Rubin, MD. He brings the knowledge and experience gained at UPMC to Charleston to serve as the region’s only plastic surgeon with this level of advanced training in body contouring surgery following weight loss.

After fellowship training, he joined the University of Rochester’s Division of Plastic Surgery, where he served as staff plastic surgeon for 8-years. While there, he served as Director of the Life After Weight Loss Program, a specialized program dedicated to the surgical care of patients who have lost a significant amount of weight (through bariatric surgery or diet and exercise). During that time, he fostered his other academic passions, including complex reconstruction, for which he has pioneered new surgical techniques for reconstruction of the body. He was selected to serve as Residency Program Director, which helped further his desire to teach young plastic surgeons. As a result, he was awarded the prestigious Joseph Losee Teaching Award for two consecutive years, followed by the Vincent F Reale Mentorship Award the following year.

Patient safety has always been a priority for Dr. Bossert; for which he was recognized across the UR enterprise with the University of Rochester Medical Center Board Excellence Award for designing a simulated patient safety curriculum.

Over the course of years of plastic surgery practice in a major academic institution, Dr. Bossert has had the opportunity to hone the skills required to treat the complexities encountered in patients who have lost a significant amount of weight or who require general aesthetic plastic surgery services. His attention to detail, individualized surgical plans along with caring, safe surgical approaches help optimize his plastic surgical outcomes. He has published his work in numerous plastic surgery journals, has presented his work nationally, and has been asked to serve on multiple expert panels nationally relating to aesthetic plastic surgery of the body.

He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and is board certified in plastic surgery through the American Board of Plastic Surgery. While not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two small children, as well as his horses, Winston and Zoey, as well as his 2 Yorkies, Piper and Gizmo. Dr. Bossert is excited to join the superb talent and tremendously dedicated team at Charleston Plastic Surgery alongside Dr. Tracy Harvey in order to continue to provide the region’s highest level of plastic surgical care.
